When did the ps3 start to allow music to be played in gameplay?

im not sure when it was implemented but the option by game devs is there for them, although some games like uncharted and mgs4 it doesnt allow as they want u to listen to the story etc, it will say music cannot be played during course of this game or sometimes music cannot be played yet it will start when available like in killzoe home screen it will start when u enter a match
updates can enable music in game aswell now

It was enabled when the in game XMB was. (Version 2.40)

But it only worked on games that allow it.
